Back to School!
I'm back from traveling to Myrtle Beach, Washington DC, and Paris! And wow! I can't believe summer is almost over and you are all going to be 6th graders. I will miss our discussions, but I know you will stop by to tell me about the exciting things that are happening in 6th grade. I hope you continue to post to the blog to let us know what you are reading. I can't wait to see how you impress your 6th grade teachers. I'm getting ready to set up my room for this year's 5th grade. Do you have any advice for the students in my new reading class? Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer!!

ReplyDeleteGrade 5 is off to a great start this year. I have a large class this year and I can't wait to get started with lit circles. We're finishing up a nonfiction text and next up is a 1 cycle historical fiction. I hope my new students love lit circles as much as you all did last year. I keep telling them they have a big reputation to live up to. I hope you all make it successfully in lit circles in 6th grade- I know Ms. Olmstead will be a fantastic teacher. I will check out the art display! Good luck with your reading and feel free to post and tell us what you're reading this year- we'd love to hear all about it!!

ReplyDeleteGenesis I am so happy you are still posting and doing well in 6th grade. It sounds like your year is off to a great start! I can't wait to hear about When Tia Lola Came to Stay. We are reading Hiroshima and I really like it. You get to learn a little about history and also a fictional story. Do you remember what that genre is called? If a giant person didnt' love me anymore I'd probably react the same way as you. It sounds like a weird movie, but I love that you can even post HOT questions about it. Let me know if you like the way it ends.
ReplyDeletehi new miss, i think it is called a bigrophy. well "How Tia Lola came to stay" is a realy nice book it is about a Domican family that they moved to Vermont and miguels parents got devoressed. so their tia lola is coming at frist ot visist but then she decies to stay!! for at home reading i am reading "Ida B" it is realy good but i just started reading it. hopefully mrs. gorge has a nice class and you too. I wonder why all writing tachers like sfa alot. well ms.Boucher loves reading class!!
ReplyDeletehey miss newell. In Ms. olmestead's class we're reading "Hoot" its kind of a good book though i dont like it too much I also have a project on the art display thingy and this weekend I might go sleep over my sister's house. I miss 5th grade we had good times there. I heard 5th grade was going to the Aquarium just like we did. Miss I have Marcos in my class and i sit in the same table as him in science. And he sits next to Erik so you can imagine how loud they are. Since I sit next to Geny in Science and Writing I didn't sit next to her in Humanities so I picked the closest seat to whre i was standin and oh my g i hadnt noticed that I was sitting right next to Marcos and then today I was doing well in class so Marcos said something like Im the man and Mr. Doyle said no you're not right now Maria's the man and I turned tomato red :) I was like "what do you mean?"
ReplyDeleteI am such a lucky teacher to have you both still posting and keeping me updated on what you are reading and doing in 6th grade. At least with Hoot you can watch a movie with it!! We just finished Hiroshima and we're about to start literature circles next week. We will begin with Tale of Despereaux again because I think it had fantastic vocabulary. Do you have any advice as we get started? How are literature circles in grade 6? Genny said that she is not loving the "boring" discussion in her reading class, so I hope she can push her teammates to come up with some great HOT questions. Can't wait to hear what you're reading next!!
